Tears, Pain and Suffering – A Newborn with Reflux

Taking your newborn baby home is supposed to be full of joy and happiness, but when reflux rears it’s evil head the story can be quite different… one of tears, pain and suffering.  The condition is trivialised by the media and many in the medical profession, but is surprisingly common.  Much greater awareness of the symptoms and treatment are needed as well as highlighting the suffering and pain that reflux and silent reflux cause babies and families across the country.

Marwell Zoo: A Toddler Day Out

Although very excited, I was a little uncertain about taking J to Marwell Zoo last week as I thought he may be too young to really enjoy it.  When J was 7 months old hubby and I took him to Bristol Zoo, which was Meerkat at Marwell Zooperfect for little ones as it houses mainly smaller animals and they were nice and close and easy to see.  J loved the penguins, meerkats and reptiles and he enjoyed walking through the butterfly house.  Marwell Zoo is much bigger and spread out with big enclosures for the larger animals (which is how it should be).  I just wasn’t sure if he would get it…

Best Books for a 1 year old

Books for a 1 year old

To celebrate World Book Day, I have compiled a list of  J’s 15 favourite books.  J loves to read!  We spend more time reading to him than he plays with toys.  When we aren’t reading to him he likes to look at the pictures himself.  J particularly loves animals and lift the flap books as well as books that make a noise and he enjoys sharing his food and drink with the animals in the books.  J’s love of reading means that we need plenty of reading material (partly to stop me getting bored!) so I have combed libraries, preloved baby sales, car boot sales and bookshops looking for the best books for him and these are his favourites.

Essential items for a Newborn

I have quite a few pregnant friends and recent conversations have reminded me of just how clueless I was prior to pregnancy!  Even though I thought I was well researched during the 40 weeks, we had a few post-birth mad dashes to the shops for items we needed right away.  This inspired me to write a list of my essential items for parents of a newborn.
